What are Cold Weather Payments and do I qualify?

Cold Weather Payments are made when the temperature outside is recorded as, or forecast to be, an average of 0°C or below over 7 consecutive days. If you qualify, you’ll get a payment of £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather between 1st November and 31st March.

To qualify, you must have a state pension or receive another social security benefit (but not Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Child Benefit or Universal Credit). To find out more and check your eligibility, visit the government’s Cold Weather Payment information pages.
